Techweek’s fashion show for wearable technology

TECHWEEK COMING TO KANSAS CITY IN MID-SEPTEMBER. By Mass Appeal News

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Get your resumes ready. Because Techweek, a 7-day technology extravaganza, is coming to Kansas City in mid-September. The big announcement was made by organizers Friday afternoon during the Downtown Council’s annual luncheon. Techweek Kansas City is scheduled for Sept. 14-20, making KC only the sixth destination nationally. Techweek originally launched in Chicago in 2011 and has since expanded to five other cities.

“To be picked certainly among the first six is a good testament to where we rank in the tech world,” said Ryan Weber, president of KCNext, a trade group for local technology entities. During the week-long event, participants will be treated to a technology conference, job fair, exposition, festival and fashion show.

“It legitimizes us,” said Blake Miller of Think Big Partners, who was one of the first to campaign for the event on Kansas City’s behalf. “It puts that spotlight on Kansas City. We’re now in the same conversation as New York, and Miami and LA and Chicago and Detroit.”

After 21 years, Kansas City lost the Skills USA competition in 2014.

So the Techweek announcement comes at a wonderful time.
